As the Principal of the school, it is important to me that everyone who steps through our doors - teachers, staff, students, sponsors and parents, are excited to be here!  This attitude enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun, and nurturing environment. Our school has a rich history of tradition and values and has grown immensely since its inception more than four decades ago. Thousands of students have received education here and many have risen to occupy high offices and good status in life. We have made a lot of changes in the past, and have much planned for the future, to provide world-class 21st century education to our students. Our learning methodology is continuously evolving to cater to the unique mind of each child and cultivate the attitude of enquiry in them. Today, our school has grown from strength to strength, covering several milestones to reach a great height, yet aspiring to better ourselves every day. This, of course, would not have been possible without the unfaltering support of our well-wishers, donors, partners, society, management, parents, teachers, staff, and students. Spread across 70 acres, the school imparts education to more than 2000 students from Kindergarten (Pre-Primary) through 12th grade. Our infrastructure covers all the facilities required for growth and care of a child.  We have residential facilities for more than 25% of our students.  A vast land within the campus has been planted with variety of trees and medicinal plants providing a healthy environment for students.  We place immense importance on extracurricular activities, along with traditions and values, for a child to grow into a successful and virtuous human being. The school has eight branches spread across remote areas of Ladakh to benefit children who cannot travel to city for education

The school is devoted to helping children from poor and remote background and, as on December 2019, has over 375 children sponsored by different individual and organisational donors.


 

The school is blessed to have been honoured with the presence and support of His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama. It is His blessings and the wholehearted contribution of various Rinpoches, well-wishers and sponsors that has made Lamdon School one of the most reputed schools of Ladakh today.

Our Objectives
History 

The school came into existence as a fulfilled dream of five young Ladakhis who envisioned a bright future for the children of Ladakh.

They started with a small NGO, called the Lamdon Society, in 1970 to serve the people. The members of the society were enthusiastic for welfare of the region and  realising the significance of  education, established Lamdon Model School three years later in 1973. It did not begin as a huge establishment but a small school in a rented building with 12 pupils and one teacher. Over last four decades, thousands of people have immensely contributed to the growth and development of the school, exalting it to the current reputation and excellence.

Meet Our Principal: Tsewang Dolma

Lamdon School proudly welcomes Tsewang Dolma as our Principal. A visionary educator with extensive experience, she has spearheaded transformative initiatives in school leadership, teacher training, and holistic education, consistently fostering academic excellence and personal growth for both students and educators.

With a strong academic foundation in Psychology and a specialization in Child Psychology, Tsewang Dolma holds the distinction of being a rank holder from the University of Bangalore. She brings expertise in child-centric  education, curriculum innovation, and capacity-building programs, ensuring a vibrant and student-focused learning environment. As a CBSE resource person, she has conducted numerous capacity-building programs for reputed CBSE-affiliated schools in Ladakh. Moreover, as an enthusiastic soft skills trainer and a Master Trainer for the School Health and Wellness Programme, her contributions are set to greatly enhance the learning experiences and professional development of the Lamdon School community.

Her unwavering commitment to education has been recognized with numerous accolades, including her appointment as CBSE City Coordinator for Ladakh, the Dr. S. Radha Krishnan Teacher’s Excellence Award, and the internationally acclaimed Outstanding Women in Buddhism Award.

Under Tsewang Dolma’s leadership, Lamdon School is poised to cultivate an inclusive, innovative, and empowering environment where both students and teachers can excel and adapt to the evolving demands of the world.

Situated at a height of 3500 metres (11480 ft.), the Lamdon Campus spread over 70 acres of land, offers spectacular views of Himalayas. Its serene location, safe environment, and vast space gives a child perfect setting to learn and evolve

Lamdon is the only school in Ladakh to have a dedicated Medical clinic located inside the campus. The building was funded by Mr. Bill Kite of the US, in memory of his late father Roy A. Kite, Jr. The clinic looks after general health of the students with three especially strong branches: dental, eye care and women’s health. The clinic has its own staff on board but also keeps working with volunteers.
